In continuing with the reputation and traditions of that original partnership, today’s Landers-Stein serves the insurance brokerage community in the US and across Latin America. Our area of expertise is impaired risk underwriting. Our specialty is service.

How did we get here?

Bernie Landers and Marty Stein were both insurance agents. Bernie was a debit agent, walking the neighborhood door to door each week, collecting dimes for $5,000 of life coverage for the “man of the house”.
After a number of years, they decided to partner up and form an insurance agency in the heart of Miami. They had agents housed in the office and rose to become the number one producing agency in the country for several carriers. Back then, brokerage was a dirty word. If you were a brokerage agency, you were banned from joining the local insurance associations. Eventually, Bernie and Marty were members of the Life Underwriters, Health Underwriters, and both earned their CLU designations. -
When Marty died at age 39, Bernie’s wife Cynthia got her insurance license and came in to help run things. She was the real boss at home and at work, some might say. The office grew and moved into a church building next door that had been for sale. It was probably the only insurance agency with a steeple.

In 1983, both Diane and Robin, Landers girls, went to work for the agency. Robin was eventually hired away by a TPA. When their parents decided to retire in 1995, Robin came back and partnered with Carmen Rodriguez, then the agency’s brokerage manager, to continue the legacy, with Diane as the office manager. They got the office furniture, phone system, and agent list as gifts and started fresh.
When both Diane’s husband and Robin’s husband passed away within months of each other, making them both widows in their 40’s, they lived the true value of having life insurance and long term care insurance in place. Having a choice to stop or slow down, they chose to continue serving their agents and clients. Always the wind beneath their wings is the Landers-Stein younger generation, though Consuelo has been with the agency for thirty years, and Carla for twenty. They have all “grown up” together.

Fast forward to 2017, Carmen retired and the rest of the crew carried on. Nearly a decade later, Landers-Stein is thriving. Old brokers, new brokers, new ideas, new carriers.
What has stayed the same is the commitment to the folks they serve.

ROBIN S. LANDERS, CLU
President
Robin is a second-generation insurance professional who started in the business in 1974. She specializes in impaired risk underwriting, working with carriers around the country to find the right fit for clients. A Chartered Life Underwriter, she has served as president of both the Miami Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors (MALU) and the Society of Financial Services Professionals – Miami (CLU/ChFC). She is currently Past President of the NAILBA Charitable Foundation.
DIANE J. PREUSS
Office Manager
Diane, also second generation in insurance, is the institutional memory of the agency, able to recall cases and agents back to the ‘80’s. She is the bookkeeper, as well as a licensed agent, who runs the office with great skill. She can help you with most any challenge.
CONSUELO APARCANA
Case Manager
Consuelo has been with the agency for twenty-six years – she has worked miracles with cases and underwriters. She understands the process of getting someone from applicant to policyholder every step of the way. Her kindness and patience with all of us is extraordinary.
CARLA SILVA
Marketing/Case Manager
Carla, with Landers-Stein since 2004, and now a licensed agent, handles her caseload with ease. She is always ready to help with quotes, applications, and clients. Her IT skills are valuable in monitoring and improving the office’s digital workspace.
BERNIE CONNELL
Senior Underwriting Consultant
Bernie’s extensive experience in the industry allows him to provide reviews of medical records and underwriting insight to get each case placed with the right carrier the first time. Bernie has worked for some of the industry’s most well-known organizations.

Service Administrator
We are using this technology company to work with our carriers and agents to help move client correspondence and updates to the respective parties. EP’s many years of process management experience with insurance agencies and carriers serves us well.
CARMEN A. RODRIGUEZ, LUTCF
Carmen retired from the agency late 2017, and is enjoying her well-deserved time in the sun and sand. We miss her still.
